Monthly Up datesJune 2008 Star of the month: Katherine White for her ingenious mobile burger selling idea and HUGE effort at the rally resulting in winning two cups! Chairman’s report Well, what a busy month May has been for us all. To kick us into May around thirty of us headed off to sunny Blackpool for the National AGM. I think that I can vouch for everyone when I say that it was a cracking weekend away. The weather held out with warm sunshine pretty much all weekend, giving us great opportunity to get on the beach, pier and, for some, the rollercoaster! The next big event for the club seemed to me like a burger flipping competition, but I am informed it was actually Derek’s Farm Sale. With a lot of planning and effort prior to and on the day Bicester YFC put its mark on catering. The day was extremely long for some, but extremely successful! I had numerous people’s compliments for the hard work and quality which was achieved, so thank you and a tremendous well done to everyone who helped out to raise vital funds for the club. So, I hear you all cry “What about the Rally?” Yet another year of wind and rain, but a few hardened folk braved the conditions to see what was to be a tremendous day for BYFC. In between all the other antics of the month members had been busy preparing themselves for their classes, practicing for Tug of War and building the float. But for all the blood, sweat and tears you can ALL take tremendous pride in winning several cups and having a further several runners up places, and to be awarded with the cup for winning the rally. Thank you and well done to everyone. What a perfect way to add to the success of the club in it bench mark 60 th year.I look forward to seeing you all in a fun packed June. The summer programme is complete so take a look its going to be eventful! Matt Derky’s Farm Sale First of all I’d like to say Well Done and a Big Thank You to everyone who helped at the farmsale. It was another early start for most people; Emily, Jo, Kat and I went to the bakery to pick up the rolls, which was our first challenge as we struggled to fit all the rolls in to the cars, but managed eventually. Clare picked up the meat in a refrigerated van and brought it over to Oakley (which she excellently reversed in to the barn). We all worked as a great team and had lots of roles to do; like chopping onions, cooking and serving the meat, loading the meat on the BBQ, cutting the rolls, serving hot and cold drinks, taking the orders and dealing with the money. So were all busy throughout the day. We were pretty hectic in the morning when the auction was in the barn next to us; but when the auction moved to the field, we weren’t selling very much, so Kat the brilliant idea of taking the food to the people, which worked wonders, we cooked loads of food and took it round the field in baskets and they were selling really well, we sold most things and eventually managed to sell all the rolls by selling them off cheap. The day was very successful, and we think we made about £500 profit. We had lots of great feedback from people saying how good the food and the service was. We finished the afternoon by going to the pub for a drink, chat and well deserved sit down. Thanks again for everyone’s help, we really showed Bicester YFC as great club to be part of!!! Claire White Main Rally report Well the rally started off early, in fact too early getting to Middleton Stoney for about 8.30 am Oh Dear! We put all of the exhibitions out first and made sure they all had there cards by them, thanks to Mrs Cook for painstakingly writing these all out for us. Well my stinging nettle was the longest until Rupert from Henley saw it went around the field and got a bigger one, thanks for that . But then the comps started, first for me was the flower arranging and once that was over it was for Abi and myself to do terrible in the Nature Quiz and once again get beaten by 10 year olds. The 5 legged race was next but I am still not sure why it was called the 5 legged race because there were either 6 legs or 4 legs but that event was next and it was Jo, Andrea and Myself on a team - “Bicester A” and Claire W, Emily and Matt - “Bicester B”. I have to say after stumbling over some bales and round a tyre and back again I am very proud of the team work that was shown with “Bicester A” who came 3 rd and “Bicester B” who came in last place after falling over numeroustimes. After that was the float the event which I wasn’t panicking about, the spice girls were freezing and baby was going see-through not so innocent hey ? Then we started to move with a judder and we were off and with a broken CD player meant that we had to sing so loud the audience could hear. I know that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were keeping the Princes under control on the front and Vicky and Debz did a good job at keeping the structures moving all the way around, and a well done for keeping the ball on the back of the float all the way around and I do apologise for the singing. After that I was another quick change in the back of some cars into tug of war gear. But before that we had to be weighed with something like 5kg over with wellies on, I think the whole team were quite relieved by the fact that only wellies had to be removed to be 5kg under the weigh restriction. Then it was the waiter race for Abi, Alan, James and myself we ran over a bale in a relay race with spaghetti rings and utensils, we came fourth and didn’t loose anything. Then came what the girls had been preparing for for quite a while “The Tug Of War” the boys went first and came 3 rdbizarrely but well done anyway. Then was the girls turn and we won every pull done, thanks to Geoff and Ed “tacky boy” for being there and giving tips and coaching. A lot of effort was put in so we deserved to win it. After that most of us when home to dry off and warm up after the horrible weather, and we met back at 8 ready for the party. It started at the cars and took Alan and James so much longer to put their tent up compared to the girls, and then we progressed to the marquee. Then inside to get the party started the song “Stop” was requested it was great to see most of the Bicester YFC Girls dancing. After that was the award ceremony with Bicester winning or being in one of the top three for most of them, it was looking promising, then came the big one, the overall winners, at that point most of the room was silent with it being between Witney and Bicester the tension could have been cut with a knife. “And in 2 nd place is … Witney” I think it is fair to say that everyone was so excited becauseBicester hadn’t won in 5 years. With quite a few members having a go at the Bungee Run and the drinks flowing the party was a great success. Most sensible people managed to get back to their beds, but Miss Mansfield, Miss Cook, Miss White, Grace, Phil, Jo, Abi, Alan, James, Tim and Myself thought it would be fun to camp. In the words of Claire Mansfield *cough Dorset boy cough* “if there had been a extreme camping competition, we’d have won that too”, the wind was so strong even in the morning when I was cooking the bacon for everyone else as they were slightly ruff, the marquee was breaking as the poles were coming out. Hmm could that of been Bicester YFC Pole Dancers Fault!?!? I really enjoyed the day and cant wait for next years rally where we will have to try to do as well. Well Done BICESTER!! Katherine White 60th report Well, when I said tickets were selling fast, I wasn’t joking! The ball is now a sell out with 300 people coming along to celebrate our clubs big birthday! This is a HUGE event for Bicester YFC so be very proud to be part of it. As always, Im on the scrounge. I really need committed helpers for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the ball.
